Dog Grooming FAQs

We have highlighted key questions below, please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

Benefits of dog grooming...
1. Healthy skin and coat: Regular grooming helps to keep your dog’s skin and coat in optimal condition. Brushing removes dead hair and distributes natural oils, promoting a healthy and shiny coat. It also helps to prevent matting, which can be uncomfortable and lead to skin infections.
2. Reduced shedding: Regular brushing and grooming can help to reduce shedding by removing loose hair from your dog’s coat. This can be particularly beneficial for dogs that shed heavily, as it helps to keep your home cleaner and reduces the amount of hair you find on your furniture and clothes.
3. Prevents skin issues: Grooming allows you to closely inspect your dog’s skin for any signs of irritation, rashes, or infections. Regular bathing helps to remove dirt, allergens, and parasites that can cause skin issues, such as itching or hot spots. Keeping your dog clean and well-groomed can help to prevent these problems from developing or worsening.
4. Improved comfort and hygiene: Regular grooming helps to keep your dog comfortable and clean. Trimming nails prevents them from becoming too long and causing discomfort or potential injury. Cleaning ears helps to prevent infections, and regular dental care, such as brushing teeth, can help to maintain oral health and prevent dental issues.
5. Early detection of health issues: During grooming sessions, you have the opportunity to inspect your dog’s body for any lumps, bumps, or abnormalities. Early detection of such issues can lead to prompt veterinary attention, potentially catching and treating health problems before they become more serious.
6. Bonding time: Grooming sessions provide an opportunity for bonding between you and your dog. Through gentle handling and positive reinforcement, grooming can become a positive and enjoyable experience for your dog, strengthening the bond between you.

It’s important to note that the specific grooming needs of dogs can vary based on their breed, coat type, and individual characteristics. Consulting with a professional groomer or your veterinarian can help you determine the best grooming routine and practices for your dog.

What is included in dog grooming?
A standard full groom includes a basic health check, bath with coat suitable shampoo and conditioner, drying, haircut and styled, clipping of sanitary area, nail clipping, ear cleaning and cologne spray.

Dogs can be groomed using various techniques including clipping, hand scissoring, hand stripping and deshedding.

Extra services include; teeth cleaning, use of mud masks to provide treatment to skin and fur condition.

Some dogs may come in between grooming appointments for their nails to be clipped to just maintain the length of them.

When is the best time to take a dog to be groomed?

Puppies can come for an introduction to groom from 2 weeks after their second vaccination. This is highly advised as it gets them used to the grooming process and desensitised to the equipment that is used.

Regular grooming appointments ensures the dog remains use to the process, grooming should never be a traumatic experience for a dog instead it should be a pleasant and positive experience.

What is the price for grooming?

Prices vary depending on breed and requirement.

The poor condition of the dogs coat can add additional costs for example if the dog is severely matted more time is required to work on this extending the time the groom may take. As part of the waiver on signing up for an account with Kendricks K9 Services you agree to any matting to be removed in the safest way as part of the duty of care stated within the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

The size of the dog is taken into account, sizes of certain breeds vary massively.

A dog having an aggressive temperament may increase the price of the groom, as this can require the groomer to take more time to enable the safety of themselves and the dog on the table.

Hand stripping is a more expensive service as it is more labour intensive. There are advantages of this technique not only for maintaining a breed standard look but also for your dog’s skin and coat.

Payment for grooming is paid on collection of your pet, past no shows will have to pay upfront before any booking will be confirmed.
